No. The login is assigned to one person and should not be shared.
You may have used the Back button (located on your toolbar) which when used removes all data. To avoid losing your information save your information periodically.
After you have submitted your online application, you will receive a confirmation. You can also check your own NEOGOV personal account for verification that you have successfully submitted your application.
Your application will be reviewed by the human resources representative to see if your qualifications best meet those posted for that position. If you meet those qualifications, your information will be forwarded to the appropriate hiring authority/department for their review.
It takes approximately 7 to 10 business days for processing. Positions that require passing an exam to qualify will necessitate additional processing time (scheduling and grading of the exam).
You may check the status of your application at any time by going to "Employment Opportunities" at
www.stlmsd.com and selecting CHECK APPLICATION STATUS and log into your account.
On your application you have the choice of receiving your notifications via email or via US mail (paper). Although we highly recommend email (faster, more reliable, etc.), you may choose to have a notification sent to you via US mail.
No, once you submit an application for a specific position, you cannot make any changes. However, you may update your application information (see next question).
Go to "Employment Opportunities" at www.stlmsd.com and select CHECK APPLICATION STATUS and log into your account. Click on the ‘Edit’ button next to a saved application. Once the application is open on the screen, click on the ‘Edit Personal Profile’ link; make changes and save the application. When you apply for another position, your information will be updated.
If you need to update your contact information on an application that has already been submitted, select the SUBMIT NEOGOV QUESTION option and send us an email with the updated information.
Applications that you have saved in your account do not expire. You may use the same application to apply for several positions. Once you qualify for a position, your name will remain on an eligibility list for up to one year. Once your eligibility has expired, you will need to reapply for the position once it is reposted on the website.
Yes. But the NEOGOV application system allows you to utilize your saved application as the basis for each posting in which you are interested.
Other Information
- What are the types of recruitments or job announcements?
- Is there a specific time period to apply for positions?
- What kind of tests will I be given?
- What if I need special arrangements for testing?
- How do I find out my test results?
- What happens after I pass the examination?
- What happens if I do not pass the examination?
- What happens if I'm referred to the hiring department?
- How long does my name stay on the list of eligible candidates?
Open Competitive/Open Continuous – available to anyone who meets the qualifications.
Employee – available only to MSD employees who meet the qualifications and received a proficient or higher rating on last review
Recruitments usually have a specific closing date and applications must be received by the Human Resources Employment Division by 5:00 p.m. on the final filing or closing date. Open Continuous recruitments may close at any time, so application should be submitted as soon as possible.
There are several different kinds of tests or examinations which are used to determine the knowledge, skills, abilities or competencies needed. Any one or a combination of tests may be given. Below are examples of the type of tests that can be given:
- Written – generally multiple-choice items test specific areas of knowledge and abilities.
- Oral – an interview panel asks questions to determine applicant's knowledge and competencies.
- Performance – evaluates an applicant's skills or physical abilities, such as software operations, etc.
- Application Evaluation (candidates do not appear) – recruitment analyst reviews application, supplemental questionnaires, etc. to determine possession of job requirements
If scheduled for an examination, it is important that you arrive on time and bring picture identification with you. Failure to do so may result in your not being allowed to take the examination. You would then have to reapply when the recruitment is open again. Examinations generally are not rescheduled.
If you have a disability and need special testing arrangements, please advise us in advance of testing. Our staff will work with you if at all possible.
Several weeks after your examination, the Human Resources Department will notify you in writing of your examination status. Please do not call the HR Dept. to request your score. Scores are not given over the phone. You then have 15 days from the date of the notification to review your examination, if you wish. An appointment needs to be made to review the examination results.
You must receive a score of at least 70% to pass the examination and be placed on an eligibility list. Applicants are placed on the list in ranking order of final qualifying grade received, from highest to lowest. Your name will remain on that list for up to one year. The number of names of successful candidates that are sent to the hiring department for final selection when a vacancy occurs depends on the type of posting. Open Competitive and Open Continuous job announcements have the department receiving up to 10 names; Employee postings have all employees on the list referred.
The District's Civil Service Rules and Regulations dictate that any applicant taking an examination for any job title who fails to make a passing grade shall not be allowed to file another application for examination for such job title until six (6) months after the date of the prior examination for such job title.
If you are referred to a department there may be a final selection interview. The Human Resources Department will contact you for an interview appointment. It is important that you promptly respond; failure to make contact may result in your removal from the eligibility list. Also, Civil Service Rules and Regulations require removal of your name from an eligibility list if you refuse two job offers. Candidates are notified of selection/non-selection in writing.
Applicants stay on the list of eligible candidates up to one year from the issuance date of the list.
